When I realized that vinegar was the solution to cleaning basically anything in our home, I completely ditched all the other products I’d always use.
It was a super-easy decision to make when I thought about all the reasons it was worth it.
1) Save your hard-earned money
Do you know how much a gigantic bottle of vinegar costs vs your favorite cleaner? MUCH LESS!
And considering you’ll want to dilute your vinegar, you’ll actually get a lot more volume for a lower price.
Cleaning products are all about marketing, and making you think that because it’s labeled as “bathroom”, it’s the only thing it can clean.
Well, there are actually products that are good for basically everything, so give it a shot! Nope, you don’t need a toilet cleaner, a mirror cleaner, a shower cleaner, a glass cleaner. All of that can be cleaned with vinegar.
2) Reduce your plastic usage
By making your own batches of vinegar cleaner, you can avoid having to buy new plastic bottles constantly. Get a good quality glass bottle with a spray nozzle, and refill it with your favorite water-vinegar ratio. (My favorite ratio is usually around the 1/4 to 1/3 vinegar)
You won’t be able to completely avoid plastic if you can’t find vinegar in bulk or glass but you can massively reduce your consumption!
3) Save the
enviroment from harsh chemicals
Since we don’t know the impact of all the chemicals we use on our water streams, I prefer staying away from them when I can.
Most things can be cleaned with a much more natural (and less powerful) cleaner, as long as you put some muscle into it.
Since chemicals aren’t doing your job for you, you have to put a bit more effort. But knowing that I’m not contaminating the environment and disturbing local ecosystems is enough for me to put a bit more effort!
The downside? Vinegar isn’t the best smelling product out there…
I know, I know… Vinegar smells. But there is some good news! You can either use a few drops essential oils to make it smell better (if you’re into that) or infuse it with citrus peels!
Also, make sure you can air out your place! It will make the smell go away faster and you’ll have some nice fresh air to smell. I don’t know about you, but I much prefer the smell of fresh air over the fake fresh scent of harsh cleaning products…
